St. Louis Vocal Project welcomes women singers, January 19, Kirkwood Community Center
St. Louis Vocal Project, an award-winning a cappella women's chorus, is holding an open rehearsal and guest night on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, 7:00 pm, at the Kirkwood Community Center, 111 S. Geyer Road. The event is open to all women singers who are looking for a fun and friendly place to do some serious singing. Come find out about a cappella singing in the barbershop style. Once you hear that harmony ringing, you'll be hooked!
If your idea of "barbershop" is four men wearing straw hats singing an old-fashioned song, you're off by about a hundred years. Modern barbershop is a vibrant, distinctive style of a cappella singing (singing without accompaniment). The Vocal Project repertoire includes old and new music from many genres, including jazz, pop, folk, and Broadway, arranged by world-famous arrangers specifically for women's voices in four-part harmony. The common element is tight harmony with complex, ringing chords.
Director Sandi Wright has 35 years of directing experience and is a certified competition judge in three international barbershop organizations. Under her leadership, St. Louis Vocal Project competes in annual contests held by its parent organization, Harmony Incorporated, and performs for the local community. The singers enjoy the benefits of fun, friendship, musical education, and the joy of bringing great music to their audiences.
The chorus is seeking new singers in all voice parts. It's not necessary to be able to read music or to have formal musical training, but some prior singing experience is helpful.
Important: All chorus members and guests are required to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination and must wear masks throughout the rehearsal; there are no exceptions.
